BMDT is a contemporary modern dance company founded on the campus of
Georgetown University by African American women over 20 years ago. Our founders had an artistic vision to express the African American experience through dance to the Georgetown University community. The company has held steadfast to the vision of its founders. BMDT performs a mixed repertoire of modern, jazz, ballet, African, lyrical, hip hop, and spiritual works, including commissioned pieces by nationally recognized artists.
The company has a rich and diverse heritage, ever-expanding audience, and
pieces that Georgetown and other communities have embraced. BMDT seeks members wholly devoted to displaying creative artistry and outstanding leadership. The company is a group of committed dancers who share the founders’ vision and passion for dance. BMDT openly welcomes new talent and artists who share the BMDT vision for community, artistry, leadership, and performance.
